Ted is a writer and nonprofit arts leader. Based in San Francisco, Ted is the Program and Development Director at Arion Press, the last printer in the United States to make books entirely by hand. At the Press, he helps direct Arion’s mission to produce letterpress, limited-edition books that pair the world’s leading artists with classic literary texts. A widely published critic,Ted curates dozens of public cultural events each year in San Francisco and across the nation.
Ted received a B.A. in English from Harvard, where he worked with Helen Vendler and James Wood. As a critic, his essays on California culture have appeared in The New Republic, New York Magazine, Los Angeles Review of Books, and The American Scholar. He is currently finishing his first novel.
At Arion, Ted helps preserve the craft of letterpress printing while imagining the field’s future by exploring innovative ways to bridge analog bookmaking and digital culture. His work reflects a commitment to championing creativity across disciplines and ensuring that the power of the printed page continues to burn bright in a digital century.
