Will is an Assistant Professor of Chemical Engineering at Stanford University, with courtesy appointments in Civil and Environmental Engineering and fellowships at the Precourt Institute for Energy and Woods Institute for the Environment. Born in Ivory Coast and raised in Alexandria, Virginia, he earned his B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Stanford and his M.S./Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering from UC Berkeley.
Will’s research focuses on reimagining waste processing through resource recovery from wastewater. His Tarpeh Lab develops electrochemical and separation technologies to transform waste into valuable products like fertilizers, nutrients, and disinfectants — while reducing energy use and environmental harm. He pioneered nitrogen recovery from urine during his graduate studies and now leads pilot projects in Kenya and California to address pollution, fertilizer shortages, and climate challenges.
