Ryan is the co-founder and CEO of Positron Dynamics, a company that develops positron technology designed to transform spacecraft operations in space. The company's system generates intense beams of cold positrons from radioisotope sources, leading to a compact propulsion system, enabling aeronautical engineers to develop an ultra-efficient, anti-matter-powered spacecraft, capable of exploration beyond the solar system. Ryan also works as a nuclear scientist at Draper Labs, is a test pilot for the United States Air Force and serves as a NASA Innovative Advanced Concepts fellow.

Ryan earned his B.A. in physics at Wesleyan University, then his B.S. in Applied Physics from Columbia University, and continued on to earn his Ph.D. in Antimatter Physics from The Australian National University.
