Paul is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and Stanford Medical School. He completed his psychiatry training at Stanford and Harvard, where he was chief resident and served on the faculty with clinical and teaching roles. He then moved to Portland, Oregon, where he worked in a high acuity hospital setting and was named one of the state’s best physicians. He then founded Pacific Premier Group, PC, a team of highly skilled professionals who are advancing brain-based consulting and clinical mental health care. This innovative organization moves beyond accepted standards of how people are understood and helped, finding answers that lie outside the blinders created by sociological and organizational misconceptions in our complex world.
Paul's current work is as consultant, psychiatrist, and thought leader. He is the author of Trauma: The Invisible Epidemic, which has been translated into nineteen languages, and his September 2023 guest series on the Huberman Lab podcast has been accessed by twenty-five million people. He is writing a second book about using knowledge gained from disciplines ranging from philosophy to neuroscience in order to understand the self and build mental health much as we build physical health.
