Martin is an Assistant Professor of Aeronautics and Astronautics at the University of Washington, where his research centers on computational fabrication, modular assembly, and programmable materials. His work aims to enable rapid, customizable, and in-situ manufacturing — including advanced in-space manufacturing systems that have already flown on the International Space Station. He earned his PhD in Computer Science from MIT’s Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL), with prior degrees from MIT, ETH Zurich, and the University of Edinburgh.

Martin brings a highly interdisciplinary approach to creative digital manufacturing, exploring applications in extreme environments, space, and low-resource settings. He has held research and industry roles at organizations including Boston Dynamics AI Institute, Tesla Motors, Harvard University, and the European Space Agency. He is also the co-founder of Brave Behind Bars, an award-winning program that provides computer science and career-readiness education to incarcerated individuals.

Known for his creativity, principled values, and big-picture thinking, Martin is deeply committed to both technical innovation and expanding access to technology education.
