Cooper is an environmental activist, technologist, investor, and entrepreneur. He has more than 100 patents to his name totaling more than 4,000 claims in the energy, materials, and food/agriculture sectors. He is a partner at Breakthrough Energy Ventures, an investor-led fund aiming to get the world to net-zero greenhouse gas emissions while ensuring everyone has access to clean, affordable, and reliable energy. Cooper is a director at the Hertz Foundation.

Cooper grew up in a small farm town in California and earned his Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering from MIT and an AB in Physics and Engineering Physics from Harvard University with a Hertz Fellowship. He spends his time working on frameworks, building and investing in transformative companies, and having heart-to-hearts.
