Rose is a Kenyan materials scientist, energy expert, and advocate for women in science. She is the co-founder and former CEO of the Mawazo Institute, a Nairobi-based nonprofit supporting the next generation of female scholars and leaders in East Africa. She is the Founder and Executive Director of African Tech Futures Lab, a new African-led institute that explores how Africa shapes and is shaped by emerging science and technology, focusing on energy, climate and AI/digital tech. She was formerly the Research Director at the Energy for Growth Hub, where she led efforts to find solutions for energy poverty and drive sustainable development in Africa and beyond. Rose holds a PhD in Materials Science and Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania and has worked on nanotechnology and renewable energy technologies. Her policy experience includes serving as a senior fellow at the U.S. Department of Energy and as an Energy and Innovation Policy Fellow in the U.S. Senate, where she helped craft legislation on energy and innovation. Rose is also a TED speaker and a frequent contributor to global discussions on climate, energy, and development. Through her work, she is dedicated to expanding energy access, empowering women, and shaping Africa’s future in science and policy.
